Whether you are buying a data logger for the first time, or are experienced in purchasing them, this article gives you the top 5 tips to assist you in your purchasing decision. So let’s get started.
Tip One: Buy a data logger that fits your purpose
Pretty simple, but important. There are a wide variety of data loggers with an equally wide variety of price points. They all have different features and different accuracy levels. Before buying one with extensive features, ask yourself “is this feature necessary?” If your data logger needs to run on battery power for a long time, does it need an LCD display that will significantly shorten its battery life? How accurate does it need to be? There is a marked increase in cost the more accurate the data logger is. If you are purchasing a data logger for regulatory purposes, look at what the rules state regarding accuracy and buy your data logger accordingly. Don’t buy a more accurate thermometer than is needed else you won’t see the benefits and it will be more expensive.
On June 16th the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (“SIG”), the governing body behind Bluetooth, announced that the next version of Bluetooth will be referred to as Bluetooth 5, and that going forward the “.x” reference will be dropped. So no more 5.0, 5.1, etc. This is to simplify the marketing message according to the press release.
Bluetooth SIG confirms that it will quadruple the range and double the speed of the current version of Bluetooth while increasing packet size by 8 times. This means Bluetooth will start to to compete directly with Wi-Fi in terms of range. Amongst the details that were announced were improvements to the standard for functionality for connectionless services like location-relevant information and navigation. It looks like the payload in advertising transmissions will be added to “significantly”.
Blue Maestro can’t wait to see what the further details will be and how we can build the new functionality into our products. The 16th June event will be held in London and we will keep you posted.
For the last 7 months or so Blue Maestro carried out an extensive pilot of our Tempo Environment Monitor with 10 of the top UK housing associations to test its usefulness and fit for purpose in a housing association, social housing or rented accommodation use case. The trial involved 100 Tempo Environment Monitors deployed in the field. We carried out this pilot through the Housing Associations Charitable Trust (or HACT) who sourced the participants and helped oversee the trial. Well the results are in and in this blog we summarise the results.
